As part of our environmental enrichment program, designed to make our wolves’ lives in captivity the best they can possibly be, we celebrate our animals’ birthdays every year.
This year’s birthday party will be held on Saturday, May 6!
Wolf Park staff and volunteers create custom made birthday cakes out of tasty, animal-friendly treats such as eggs, sausage, jell-o, cheese and pig ears for the wolves, coyotes, foxes, and bison. Each animal gets his or her own but sometimes they are sure that another one is better than the one given to them, and will “swap” treats.
Visitors to the Park on that day will have the chance to watch the animals figure out how to get the snacks inside their cake, or sometimes how to wear the cake as a hat — each wolf approaches this environmentally enriched activity with his or her own special flair.
If you can’t be there in person, you can still participate! Donors of $25 or more will receive a photo of their chosen animal interacting with his or her cake.
(Please note that the animals only have one birthday per year — therefore, buying a birthday cake is only available once a season.)
